To counterbalance the optimism: remember that vehicle carbon emissions account for only a relatively small part of humanity's impact on the planet and we may well be fucked by 2050 anyway:

Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, but I get a sense that #1 is improving rapidly (switch to renewables). #2 is more difficult to judge. Seems to be lots of different (proprietary) solutions so far

Yeah, tricky problem with many factors. Here's one of the links I read earlier: two of the main issues as I see it are 1) how is the electricity produced and 2) battery management / recycling.

If I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I can afford to pay for an electric car, and in doing so fund the R&D to further develop the technologies so that they'll soon be more widespread and affordable for others then why not?

My conclusion was that, strictly financially, it's cheaper to stick with the diesel for a few more years, but if i put a cost on my personal environment impact then it's probably better to go electric now.

I was wondering the same recently. Found some claims that even including production an electric car will offset the cost of production after a relatively short time (depending on how much you drive). I'll try to find the links.

Sorry, I misread. "Campaigners unsuccessfully urged for measures (i.e. restrictions) to NOT at apply", i.e. so the SF police can NOT use FR then.👍 I thought the campaigners were the ones against FR.

A nice gesture, but it only applies to "local agencies". Also "campaigners unsuccessfully urged for the measures not to apply to local police." So local SF police can also use it (although they don't currently)?
