It's watts/cubic meter. Yes, sun's core is 15.7 million K, but, per meter cubed, it works out to less than the energy generation of compost. That makes it woefully inefficient!

Bewilderingly counterintuitive fact: the sun is so bright and hot only because it’s so big. It radiates the same amount of energy per cubic meter as a heap of compost. abc.net.au/science/articl…

The culture war on Twitter is a meme war, an arms race of insults, fought using nutpicking and straw man arguments, so it's only natural that the most ridiculous takes would gain prominence.

A fairer challenge would be to find two good takes from the left, or, if you like, Elizabeth Warren supporters, because the woke are the nuts who get nutpicked to represent these groups.

An easy way to acquire a following on Twitter is to enlist in the culture war and spend all your time nutpicking the other side's worst takes. It’ll gain you a steady supply of followers, but it’s still a bad strategy, because all the followers you gain will be assholes.

Capitalism is not a coherent philosophy because it is an emergent system. This is why systems that work less well are more enticing.

If a news story fills you with fury, pause, take a deep breath, and reflect that the story was likely embellished specifically to fill you with fury.

I acknowledge in the article that each behavior I list is an exception rather than a rule, but that this doesn't matter due to the exponential effect of infective behaviors.

I can't think of any situation in which it would be necessary, though if one were at war it could be advantageous, which is probably how the propensity for it evolved in us.

I originally included a segment on bugchasers for precisely this reason, but alas, it was removed during the editing process.

In 2005, 4 million people experienced a simulated Apocalypse. They reacted in bizarre ways unanticipated by disaster experts, and now the same disturbing behaviors are emerging in the real world in reaction to coronavirus. My new article. @Rabbit_Hole_Mag

Before people debate, they should both share a glass of wine, walk to a park together, and pet some dogs. This would definitely increase the charitableness of discourse.

"priming white college students to think about the concept of white privilege led them to express more racial resentment in subsequent surveys. Anti-racist indoctrination actually feeds racism. So tribalism deepens"
