That new Sabrina season is fucking disturbing. Even more so than the two before that. Nice.

A KSZ9893 together with a power supply and a bunch of IO, CAN, maybe RS485 on a hat would be pretty nice. The only downside is that I can't attach the Switch directly to the RGMII port of the Raspberry Pi, but need a PHY chip and then go into the real ethernet port of the Pi.

No need for PoE. I have 24V powering multiple PLCs and other stuff. I just need the Raspi to do a bit of routing, firewalling, DNS, DHCP etc. I need a second 100 MBit/s ethernet port though. I could hook up an SPI programmable Switch IC and use VLANs on the Pi. Unsure yet.

DIN-Rail mounting plates for Raspberry Pis are everywhere, but no simple and cheap 24V power supply. How do people power these things? With a Micro-USB or USB-C power supply? Oof.

Yeah, I quickly grepped in /etc for char_dev, but nothing showed up. I lost interested after that :P

Fucking German home automation forums. Somebody asks: "If I do this, is it legal?" The first guy who answers is ALWAYS the "You need to be a licensed electrician!!1!cos(0)"-dick.
For fuck's sake, I'm not stupid and I can have inspection and approval of my work done afterwards!

It is named vcio though, so why does it show up as char_dev?

The Raspberry Pi has a device node called /dev/char_dev. This is the interface to the GPU Mailbox. Who copied an example driver and never changed the device node name? The style fits the whole project though...

They are using a few ARM PrimeCell peripherals though. ARM is nice enough to give all of their IP cores an identification register which I was able to dump for a few peripherals using JTAG, so I identified a few UARTS etc.

It's frustrating. I wanted to fuzz stuff with afl-unicorn. I have very early JTAG access to get a memory snapshot, but they disable it later during boot and I don't know where and how.

4) Sometimes I have to, just to be able to use stuff. Want to control the RGB LEDs on your motherboard or memory sticks from Linux? Have fun reverse engineering a bunch of COM-based Windows utilities from vendors to figure out how.

Oh god, that reminds me of how I tried to identify a custom SoC in the older Wago 750-8xx PLCs. For days I read *so many* ARM 946 chip reference manuals and compared memory layouts. Nothing matched so far, so I still don't have a lot of documentation :(
