China restricted internal travel. Do we want to create epicenters everywhere around the world ? Look at how hard the Chinese are trying to contain this and look how exponential the curve of infections still is. How many others cities do you want to have to lock down like Wuhan ?

Queen Victoria quite certainly drank tea with slave-harvested cane sugar imported from the Americas, where slavery was abolished during her reign : 1865 (USA), 1886 (Cuba) and 1888 (Brazil).
Also, as has been said, Britain outlawed the (atlantic) slave trade, not slavery itself.

Typo, Sir!
"Implementing the rule turned out to be a challenge; even though it was signed into law in 2020, it took five years to finalize and apply the regulations."
Should read 2010, not 2020

There is no evidence. Making momentous decisions would require more data. We've ordered an urgent review, due by the end of the month.

The irony is that the man who initially pointed out the tweet(s) has just said that this has gone too far

The man responsible for managing the epidemic in Shanghai has indeed said that the arisal of new (mini)epicenters would be very bad, as in those epicenters, health workers would have to screen not only people coming from Wuhan but also anyone with a fever

Until this Zeitgeist is over, one of the best things we can do is simply marvel and laugh at the way Agony Aunts have left their jobs and "clients" to colonise whole publications with what is essentially glorified blogging

Now, we describe their work as "research" and the end product as a "study" (at least she's not calling herself or being called an "expert" or a "scholar")
A simple fix would be to discard academic terminology and instead call this an "essay" and ask her about her "theses"

Truly a gem to be kept for the ages.
The West feels like it's hit peak social science. People (mostly women) like @PeggyOrenstein used to write novels and be known as novelists, their work discussed in similar fora (literary journals & coffee houses => new yorker, twitter)

I think the US can be mentioned for protectionism (large tariffs until 20th century/largest economy status). And I remember someone making the case for know-how theft as well

Therefore, calling for businesses to be "socially responsible" and "engage w/ stakeholders" furthers corporatocracy in two ways: it implies acceptance of its progression, and cements it by giving corporations legitimacy in an area that was formerly the preserve of States & NGOs

while corporations extend their hold on others (education, healthcare, security, law enforcement,..)
@Klaus_schwab identifies as a pragmatist, not a democrat or corp-crat. But since status quo is ~state power and he wants stakeholder capitalism to progress, he is a corporatocrat

But corporate forms of power seem to be advancing in Western countries (I cannot speak about other countries).
This is not binary. In many ways, states could successfully reclaim some powers (by regulating or nationalising businesses) and claim new ones (tech, space, oceans,...)

...through equally valued votes, although most of the time to select representatives, which also have equal votes.
To state the obvious: capitalism implies a logic of one dollar of capital one vote.
Both systems have binding rules (constitutions, bus. law), and already coexist

In short, stakeholder capitalism is a form of corporatocracy where businesses structured in a capitalist way (v. cooperatives for example) organise politcal engagement with stakeholders.
Democracy generally refers to a system where a state organises political engagement.....

You seem to have concluded - and you're probably right - that they have receded from the foreground and that corporatocracy is increasingly fact. Thus, you as an activist (for socioeconomic equality?) call for engagement with and within corporatocratic mechanisms
