Sir Thomas More described a fictional country in which all social gatherings must occur in public, to encourage good behavior. If you ask me, it's no Utopia.

Me? Not hiring. Just thinking that counts as a "skill" as per original tweet. Also I've been trying to write recently. (not for profit)

(writing might be an inviable career due to the large number of people who want to write for a living, but) how's your writing?

Along similar lines, this looks like 'cog sci' to me.

Compiler error/warning levels which calibrate to the prevalence of similar issues. If you make one type error in hundreds of lines, code refuses to compile. If you do it all the time, not even a warning message. Same with paren matching, etc.

People compliment me on my maturity in regards to how I engage with "twitter drama" and a lot of that is due to me refraining from Lashon Hara. So in this thread I'm gonna teach you about Lashon Hara and how, whether you're Jewish or not, you can (and should) refrain from it too.

There's something common between @ctrlcreep and Lovecraft beyond the "weird fiction" genre... Not sure what I'm pointing at... "Cosmic emo"??

I would claim @ctrlcreep showcases a variety of possible emotional reactions to cosmic would-be-horror. Love, lust, comfort, despair, excitement, curiosity, wonder, lazy acceptance, all with subtle nuances.

I think the genre-savvy reaction I'm imagining doesn't assume apparent incomprehensibly = true incomprehensibly.

It seems like a lot of people equate genre-savvy characters with intelligent characters (in the @ESYudkowsky sense), but when characters react to statements like "nothing can go wrong" with "nooo! Plot logic dictates something will go wrong now" I just cringe at the irrationally

Genre-savvy Lovecraftian horror seems like it naturally turns into "Lovecraftian for different emotions than horror"... Main character doesn't stare blankly at the incomprehensible. Doesn't necessarily embrace it, either, but can have many different reactions.

w/o special adaptations to the contrary, any swarm/herd will naturally seek out places where its members stand out from the background environment, as a consequence of trying to follow the group + having a greater ability to follow the more visible part of the group.

(So it could be that there was a window where fairness instincts could have gone a different way, but selected this path, locking in the incentives.)
