Yet more signs that fall has arrived. Tonight will be the last sunset at/beyond 7pm & also the last day with over 12hrs of daylight in Washington, DC this year. Such a bummer it’s a cloudy day. Daylight Savings Time ends November 4th, at which point the sun will set around 5pm.

Another grey day today I'm afraid. Light showers and drizzle possible through the lunchtime hours but we should start drying out a bit the second half of the afternoon into the evening. Wednesday should start with fog...then a little sun...then t-storms.

There have been 44 days with measurable precipitation and 73 days with no measurable precipitation in that time span in Washington, DC (I'm including today too) Our 30 year average (1981-2010) is 37 days with measurable rain from June 1st - Sept 30th. So we're above normal there.

Tracking storms off the Southeast coast, wind shear in the area looks like it may keep the system from getting a name. Models suggest most of the precip should stay east of the storm's center (offshore) but scattered storms coming inland later today could drop locally heavy rains

The first Monday in fall and last in the month of September will feature clouds and on again/off again showers through the entirety of the day. Cool and occasionally breezy as well, with temps stuck in the 60s all day.

Today's high looks like it's going to go into the books as 65° here in Washington, DC...which would make it DC's coolest day in the high temperature department since late April. Very fitting for the 1st full day of fall! Tomorrow very similar, but 80s back Tuesday & Wednesday!

After a bit of a lull in named storms, Tropical Storm has formed in the far eastern tropical Atlantic. While not expected to strengthen too much, the storm will likely head for the Lesser Antilles later this upcoming week. Likely to be a heavy rain maker for that region.

Happy Friday! Weekend is almost here and it's a little split. Saturday may start with clouds & a few showers, but should clear up in the afternoon. Sunday is the more dreary day. It won't rain every minute, but will be cool & cloudy with on & off showers.

An early look at the weekend ahead. We change seasons this weekend & boy will it ever feel like it! Saturday still warm with a spotty PM shower or storm, while the first full day of fall on Sunday will feel much cooler by comparison with scattered showers.

Was asked about this a few times. Loop below is Sep 17->27th. Main energy with Florence went out to sea, but a piece did break off & is adrift in west Atlantic. May enhance rains in SE late next week, but atmospheric subsidence & unfavorable winds would make redevelopment tough.

Hard to believe but we are down to the last 2 full days of summer! Both days will feature decent amounts of sunshine with clouds mixing in each afternoon. Get out and enjoy as we will welcome fall in both name & weather conditions on Saturday night!

Should be a beautiful afternoon here in the DC region. For those out to the west of town, there could still be a quick passing shower as a weak cold front passes through (I-81 corridor in VA has best chance) which will bring less humidity for Thursday.
