Spring preview coming this week with 70s on the way...however we cannot sleep on winter just yet. I have not seen an NAO cliff dive of this magnitude in years. This feature doesn't guarantee snow, but it does force the storm track south. Have to watch it going into March.

Well after a February day of snow, winter is coming to a screeching halt once again early this week. One of the strongest upper level ridges in recent memory for February will grip the eastern half of the country this week. What does that mean? It's going to get very, very warm.

The end is near as drier air starts to move in. Still a nice band hanging on up towards Frederick!

Precip is lightning up pretty fast out west as back edge moves in. Still a couple hours of snow/sleet left in DC but the intensity should start to wind down here. Still some good bands northwest of town! Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend snow!

Hearing reports of heavy mixing around DC. Winds roaring out of the southwest just above our heads at 850mb. Cold air being eroded. Back edge of the storm coming in around Harrisonville/Charlottesville. Few more hours and game over on this storm. Not such a bad little storm! ❄️

Reports of snow/sleet lightly falling across parts of the region as the system starts to move in. If there is a time to avoid roads, it's 5-7pm which is when snow could cause some visibility issues. Once we change to rain, snow melts very quickly. You know what it's time for...

Newest 15z 4km RPM model. Shows the following in downtown DC... Light Rain/Mix/Snow overspeads 3-5pm Moderate/Heavy Snow Risk: 5-7pm Snow Changes to sleet then rain: 7-8pm Rain 8-10pm (still snow N & W). Gone by 10pm. Gives ~1" to DC, ~1" to Dulles, 2" to Baltimore.

And so it begins... Temps still in the 40s but above surface temps are below freezing. You're raining/snowing into very dry air. As you moisten that air up, temps will fall as that is a cooling process. This is why we'll see snow despite temps in the 40s at the moment. 🙂

Here are my poorly drawn from home expectations based on latest guidance. There is "thump" potential around D.C. where heavy snow could give us a couple inches, but I'm leaning more towards the <1" range. Snow will melt pretty quickly otherwise. Record warmth possible next week.

❄️Here is an updated snowfall forecast from the National Weather Service. It does not look like DC/Baltimore will be placed under winter weather advisories with this one since this is not occurring on a school/work day. Remember: Mostly on the grass. 👍❄️

This morning’s updated forecast from Gary. Concern around DC would be for quick “thump” of heavy snow for an hour or so. System moves out quick. My Monday most forget it was ever here as we warm up again.

Here comes the cold front!! Sharp, thin line of heavy showers about to cross right over downtown. Will be brief… But expect winds to kick up with it! Gusts over 30mph possible as cold air starts to return!
