Say what you want about the 2018 QBs and Barkley, but Gettleman’s reasoning for not drafting one of them was that the Giants should build around Manning. Since, the Giants benched Eli after just 5 more wins. Gettleman’s evaluation of what Eli had left in the tank was awful.

Yes, that was always the problem. Also: the Giants could very easily have come out of that draft with both Barkley and Lamar Jackson. They had an early second round pick, and no doubt could have packaged that to jump ahead of the Ravens.

They also could've ended up with Darnold/Josh Allen/Josh Rosen/Lamar Jackson and Nick Chubb without moving at all. Taking Saquon at 2 there was an all time football guy move. That is usually synonymous with dumb.

"Gettleman's evaluation was awful" is pretty broadly applicable (I mean he was right about Barkley being good but that was one of the easiest evaluations in recent memory)

The Giants could've passed on Barkley & traded down a few times, getting Lamar Jackson, plus 2018 picks 37, 49, 53, and 56, plus 2019 picks 30 & 34. (2-->6-->12-->27)

No chance the GM was saying what the owner, who just hired him, wanted to hear? No chance at all?

If we can call it an “evaluation”. That’s giving Gettleman too much credit

In fairness Gettleman probably has little say in the matter. Anyone thinking the Eli mandates werent coming directly from Mara is fooling themselves

Only a joke btw, I think Barkley was the right pick there and I’m excited to see what Jones can do

That’s not fair. He wanted Saquon. He’s not going to come out and say Manning sucks. He knew Mannning wasn’t long term answer.

That's in a lot of ways even worse. Prioritizing a RB over a QB is all time dumb.

You’re right. Should have drafted Mitch Trubisky and then David Montgomery.

Build. Around. Eli. What? LOL. After trading away his best WR, and his best DE? For Eli? Weakness on O and D and his was building for Eli? Do you even football, bro?

Building around Eli was never the plan... He also said he didn't sign obj to trade him. He knew they were drafting DJ all along. He planned on building around a QB but his name wasn't Eli.

Again, he also said he didn't sign OBJ to trade him.... I bet you believe what you're told at a poker table too. Hey, I have a bridge for sale if you're interested. Great deal!
