Overstated? Maybe ;-) but - without robust data as yet seems like ever decreasing amount of senior roles for the young cohort to be aiming at, career wise.

Why does it take so long to prosecute war crimes? The Khmer Rouge leaders died of old age before it went to trial. How can anything take this long?

Based on a tiny country (4.4 mil) I work in, majority of older ad people open their own studios and do something similar or change careers completely in mid 30ies. Other visible trend is employing young'ns and sacking the old to remain relevant and fresh (supposedly).

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Gopher, Netscape with frames, the first Browser Wars. Searching for pages with AltaVista, pop-up windows self-replicating, trying to uninstall RealPlayer. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

So - in career planning terms - assuming you want to go into advertising, you also have to assume you won’t be agency for all of it, statistically speaking. Even more important to teach business skills to young people then.
