After a tough week for the country, these magnificent views from Grandeur Peak this weekend make me whole.

Friends don't Trump the Constitution if you're principled. Kudos to for standing tall while his colleagues groveled for a nice Tweet from their idol. History will call him a statesman. They'll be on the ash heap.

"Mitt Romney, a Man Alone." I hope he knows, however, that he has his appreciators.

I do my best to suppress it, Jacey, but I’m a bit fed up these days. 🙂

More than anyone save armed criminals themselves, these buffoons jeopardize our 2nd Amendment rights.

For anti-Trump Republicans—a small but electorally significant segment—it’s been uncomfortably possible to oppose Trump but remain affiliated with the party, looking instead to more reasonable Republican senators for leadership. The witness vote may mark the end of that for many.

In a single bogus impeachment trial, Senate Republicans will have made Trump’s pursuit of foreign backing and obstruction of Congress unimpeachable. It’s hard to ignore the fact that they benefit from both, especially at a time when they’re facing increasing electoral headwinds.

We’re watching extreme Republican partisanship dismantle the separation of powers.

Who are you?” said the Caterpillar. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, Sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.” Lewis Carroll, Alice In Wonderland

Such a pity. Perhaps Seb Gorka or Milo can fill in.

One can only deduce by Senate Republicans’ decision tonight to join Trump’s cover-up that they’re willing to enable his corruption if it helps them maintain power. They’ve abandoned the public interest, weakened our system of checks and balances, and should be held accountable.

Senate Republicans blocking witnesses is itself an abuse of power.

An absurdly hypocritical statement from in which she laments the "partisan nature of this impeachment" and that "there will be no fair trial in the Senate" while declaring that she'll vote against witnesses. Senator, you're now a party to this cover-up. It's yours.

Through it all, through thick and thin, I have maintained my Republican membership. But if Republicans block witnesses, if they lay the institutional integrity of the US Senate on the altar of Trump, that will likely be the final straw for me. I could be very soon.

Because the damage would have been even worse in all of these respects had the president not even been impeached, had Congress done nothing. Much worse. Also, expecting the system to fail is a great way to ensure that it always does.

Some consequences if Trump is acquitted: —Congress loses power to check president —Foreign backing of presidential candidates normalized —Presidential use of tax dollars for personal gain normalized —President is effectively above the law —Attacks on US democracy grow

If Senate Republicans block witnesses and acquit this guilty president today, they’ll be complicit in his lawlessness and corruption, and the damage it causes. This is the most consequential decision they’ll ever make and they should be remembered for it forever.

You're right. It was incredibly foolish and naive from outset to expect 51 Republican members of Congress to uphold the absolute minimum their constitutional oath requires. But the shame is not on us. It is on them and on Trump and the people who would excuse the inexcusable.
