Here's a simple rule, tell me if I'm wrong: if you can't report your results on the day, you don't get to go first-in-the-nation.

The irony of the IA caucuses is that they actually *drive turnout down*, because anyone in-state familiar with the system understands what a ponderous time-sink it is. Informed voters have political preferences but real lives as well. Caucuses violate that horribly.

I've got a crazy idea: you set a day to cast a vote, you let people get in line and fill out a ballot and put a ballot into a ballot box, then they go home, then the polls close, and then you count the votes!
Crazy, I know. But hey, I'm clearly just a crazy radical extremist.

Reminder: it's Wednesday afternoon and we still really have no idea who won the Iowa Democratic caucus.
Perhaps, maybe just maybe, this is a stupid format.

Seriously, Charles McGee at 100 is possibly in better shape than me and I'm 39.

Anyone who haunted the AV Club back when it was still worthwhile understands the legend of @ZODIAC_MF, which (even more impressively) he hasn't ever sold out in any way. He's just ZMF. You tip the cap.

So I ended up checking out the State of the Union highlights and my #1 takeaway is holy crap Charles McGee (Tuskegee airman) looks insanely good for a dude who is literally 100 years old.

There was a long period as an adolescent and then teenager and then college smartass where I pretended to hate incredibly awesome schlock but then I grew into my own skin and realized I needed to see Jason Statham attaching jumper cables to his tongue to keep himself alive.

the cartoonish aspects of it are intensely grating to me now. the premise is great, and the performances from foxx and waltz are excellent, but the way the ending descends into comic farce betrays the film's potential immensely to me. bugs me every time i watch it.

(his best three are probably RESERVOIR DOGS, JACKIE BROWN, and HOLLYWOOD, with INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS a somewhat far-off fourth...a film that has so many great moments but doesn't hang together.)
