Of course, many disagree here. There are tons of Lacanians who do the opposite and selectively employ (mostly early-to-mid) Lacan in the name of pathologizing trans expression, for instance. But they are wrong.

I'd argue this misreads how Lacan treats sex, which he qualifies as having nothing to do with biology. By locating the phallus in the purely symbolic, Lacan's psychoanalysis should be a rejoinder to, not an ally of bioessentialism (this is at least how Gherovici reads Lacan)
