One of my favorite phenomena is the naming of things using commonly found signage: e.g. (new music ensemble) or (cocktail bar). Excuse me while I go write my new novel “Employees Must Wash Hands Before Returning to Work”.

Cool! Only thing is the second game (i.e. Day Job) refreshes the entire page when you click ‘play again’?

Can we think of data visualization as a translation 2 degrees removed from the source? is an abstraction of some source phenomena, and is an translation of that abstraction. Think of an English translation from a French translation of a book originally in Chinese.

Despite a couple of years with now, I still find myself writing list_of_strings.join(' ') as opposed to ' '.join(list_of_strings). Old habits die hard.

I’m from Elizabeth NJ, and was shocked to learn that Marsha P. Johnson was the most Wiki’ed person from my city. I never learned a thing about her pivotal role in as a kid. Shame on our edu system. Thanks

In celebration of all the fever recently, I’ve updated the Casting Shakespeare project to include Keanu’s 1995 turn as Hamlet. He is obviously of descent.

Seeing the images out of 🇭🇰 has stirred up in me a strange mixture of emotions: righteous anger, pride, sadness, melancholy, and hopefulness, stirred together into one unholy union. Good luck to my peoples from afar. “若以此小島終身作避世鄉 群力願群策 東方之珠更亮更光”
