If I had to choose two principles as the defining features of neoliberalism, I would go with (1) the protection of the governance and functioning of the economy from democratic pressure (2) coercive inclusion of goods and actors within markets

title is the first thing I think of and guides the composition process I like titles without subtitles where possible, and I don't do quotations or pop culture references as titles bc they're opaque if they get separated from subtitles

People always *say* they want their kids/ the next generation to do better & be better off, but when the conversation turns to a substantive way to improve things - college debt forgiveness & free college - some of the same people jump to "why should they have it so good?"

6/ But what is being normalized by this debate? My fear is that the exceptionalist tone of much of the discussion is working to normalize the every👏🏽day👏🏽 workings of the broader prison & migrant detention & policing infrastructure (interior & border & transnational).

beware anyone who seems to think the price of celebrating progress is warping and caricaturing the past. clarity about the past is crucial for clarity about our possible futures

Migrant camps are concentration camps & prisons. “When we hold that the only valid way to understand the migrant camps is in the context of the atrocities of a different country and a different era, we obscure the way in which they are an extension of ongoing U.S. violence”

Looks like the internal investigation into John Searle, launched after the harassment lawsuit, has concluded. (After getting this email, I looked for other news of what happened, but found nothing.)

...as well as employees who are not Catholic, not Christian, or not believers. Yet they are not targeted. The targeting of LGBT employees must cease, and Brebeuf and the Midwest Province are here standing with the marginalized. This is the most Catholic thing that they could do.

I stand with my brother Jesuits who stand with our LGBT colleagues and stand against the relentless targeting of LGBT people. Other employees do not conform to, or agree with, church teaching: straight couples living together before marriage, practicing birth control, etc...
