One last flashback for the week: this was before my time, but I just adore this pic (and these actors,) so here are and in CONVERSATIONS from the 1998 Young Playwrights Fest.

I sat on this post for awhile, wondering if this is useful info or catharsis, but the more I hear from , the more I think it's important you know how much REALLY want you to succeed.

W/out seeing your materials it's hard to say. Maybe you need to show more range, maybe your pics are fine but not standing out, maybe you're in a really tough category. There are many possibilities, but if you keep working on your chops, you'll be ready when an opportunity arises

Yes absolutely, when the possibility is available to you. (It's not always.)

Have your reps pitch you and explain to casting what makes you so perfect. (And remember to trust us - it may LOOK like it's perfect for you on paper, but there's something we know about the character that's not in the BD that makes you not quite right...)

Do good work and we will find you. Self-submit when you can. The relationship starts with us falling in love with your acting, not your well-written email or your cleverness on social media.

A few seconds. If you're reading for something emotionally heavy and you've clearly prepped in the waiting room, we'll start with the scene and save the formalities for the end. If it's not super emotionally charged, we expect you to be able to jump in after a few moments.

Both, I'd say. Same like-minded individuals, different processes and ways of doing things.

Usually yes, but there are circumstances out of our control sometimes, (like suddenly hearing we need to cast this to be in wardrobe in two hours...) The fact that they watched it and loved it is still a win.

Range, someone who can draw my attention... I'm also looking at the way you move, your tone of voice, etc.

They're picking back up now that announcements have been made and re-castings released. It's usually somewhat quiet from mid-April through early May, (mostly relative to how nuts it is from Jan - end of March.)

Spend some time here. Meet people, take some classes. Pick a month and be on the ground and make connections.
