More specifically, the textbook-classic Adaboost, I haven't kept up with the more recent boosting literature (XGBoost?): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdaBoost

Doesn't boosting do this, penalize incorrect ensemble members?

Hypothesis: Paper titles induce a buzzword hierarchy that predicts position in a "subtree". My attempt at an ML subtree:
/root: "Algorithms for X", "AI for Y"
/root/CS: "Self-driving Y"
/root/CS/ML: "Deep X", "Hierarchical Y"
/root/CS/ML/STATML: "Semiparametrically efficient X"

I’m of the opinion that unless your instrument is ridiculous sounding, and only makes sense once you know the endogenous variable, the exclusion restriction probably doesn’t hold. twitter.com/andrewheiss/st…

IFs are central to many stat methods and can bridge machine learning with inference, but they're hard to learn

I think GMail misclassified the email as coming from a list and showed the recipient the button to unsubscribe? No way people naturally respond with "unsubscribe".

You may find the Memorize project (learning.mpi-sws.org/memorize/ ) by @btabibian @musically_ut @autreche and team relevant. They have an accompanying paper in PNAS '18: "Enhancing human learning via spaced repetition optimization"

For the next month or so, I plan to mention an Econometrics paper that I really enjoy reading. I will try to do this every Monday.
The first paper of this series is by @asheshrambachan and @jondr44, "An Honest Approach to Parallel Trends"

Spoiler alert : "Music is irreplaceable"
We used quasi-experimental techniques to show how adopting podcasts influences the original way people listen to music. The paper also includes interesting findings for systems that aim at surfacing multiple mediums simultaneously. twitter.com/SpotifyResearc…

Related: I know Syrian students at a university cannot run jobs on the IBM-made university supercomputer due to US law. I don’t think this was a grand scheme by IBM or Github though. But it is easier to say “let’s move out of Github” than “let’s use a non-US-made supercomputer”.
