(When) are you switching to custom alloy instead of 301 for starship?
Probably 6 months or so. 301 is certainly fine for orbit, but SpaceX 30X will be better.

Also why are you using square cutouts on the ring segments? Aren't these known to be concentrations of stress

On the production version, certainly. On a quick and dirty test vehicle probably not a issue with metal fatigue. But good point, I remember a lot of airlines crashing because of metal fatigue, in the 70's.
