yeah, the charity comparison is interesting: the language around this, all "raising money for" and "supporting", reflects the way we usually talk about charities, rather than businesses.

Great piece by . Buy direct! I alternate between my local bookshop and my hometown bookshop and they’re always so quick - books in within a day or two. I find the Bookshop interface so blank - it doesn’t encourage browsing at all

If you have posted a “2020 in music” graphic, please consider supporting your top artist(s) by buying an LP/CD/7”/tape, paid download, merch, or even a Patreon subscription or ko-fi tip - even just once, even if you have done so already. Being a musician is perilous as hell!

There is SO much more to this story – don't get me started on affiliate links – and learning about it all has made me realise how complicated the book trade is, when really it should be simple: authors, publishers and bookshops should be paid fairly

Great, in-depth reported piece from here on Bookshop dot org being far less good for indie bookstores than it was marketed as:

I am so appreciative of the booksellers, publishers and author who spoke to me for this piece. It is tough to speak out against something that has been met with such excitement and they are very brave to have done so
