I don't understand the infatuation with Huawei. Surely, there are tons of companies with deep ties to their respective intelligence communities. Anyone follow why this particular company is being singled out so hard? twitter.com/KenDilanianNBC…

Afaik they have been caught out before. Moreover, china have made huge investment in them so it's basically a nationalised tech company in a country with a terrible rights record who would control major western comms infrastructure.

It's about balancing risks. I don't know the right balance but I can see the problem, even allowing for other companies having their own 'holes'

I think this is a case of "accuse your enemies of your own sins"... I would be surprised if Cisco had never collaborated with intelligence.

I'm sure GCHQ will see it as an "opportunity" rather than a threat, they have hundreds of people looking at the tech and by now they've identified a number of ways to exploit it aside from and on top of their recommendations for fixes.

Simple. They're not an American co and threaten US dominance in a strategically important and lucrative industry. Surely this is obvious.

The infatuation might come from the fact that Huawei is THE largest manufacturer of telecomm equipment and fhe second largest maker of smartphones. By some accounts, 40% of the world population relies on Huawei equipment
