lots more to say, i won't be able to do justice to this question in a few tweets but i'll close with these screenshots from the coherence therapy manual about different kinds of purposes for maintaining low self-worth

Just a non-spoiler note about The Good Place: Schur has explained that he basically got told after Parks & Rec that NBC would do whatever he wanted, and he used it to make a weird, nutty show about moral philosophy. If you ever get a free fat pitch over the plate, swing hard.

That these are different functions is particularly apparent to folks who are used to sometimes thinking of functions as bundles. Adding or removing some empty fibers is not trivial!

Folks who study Big History know this, because Eric Chaisson makes a big deal about energy rate density.

Oh, and this expands on that first PNAS article I linked to, about the canonical cortical microcircuit in birds:

Even some neural transcriptional specializations for cognitive tasks are homologous between birds and mammals, as in this example of specialized gene expression for vocal learning:

No, the planetary orbits around the Sun make roughly a 60 degree angle with the galactic plane.

I guess the "similar fact" here is that the Solar system formed from a single spinning cloud of dust (with angular momentum in some direction), so to a first approximation we should expect the angular momentum of each body & each orbit to point in that same direction.

The orbital angular momentum of every planet (and the internal angular momentum of the Sun) points north-ish (roughly in the direction from the Earth's south pole to its north pole), not south-ish. (Same for the internal angular momentum of each planet except for Venus & Uranus.)
