It's a bit different than the feeling when you read something clever in a book, because fanfic is *shared*, and so that effort and those smart lines were part of a community.

TFW you read a perfectly turned phrase in a fanfic that's super in-character and in-world and funny as heck.

The paperback edition of ONE LONG NIGHT, my global history of concentration camps from the 1890s to the present, is out today! You can read more about it on my website: . For the next few days, I'm going to post relevant sections to celebrate its arrival.

Kate, doesn't that make you a plotter? Honestly I don't think so. I just need something to hang the warp on before I start the weft.

The frame is almost always story-telling (the only exception for me so far is EXIT). I just don't know WHAT yet. Or rather, I know what (it's fish), I just don't know HOW.

The other thing about this book I am stumbling right now is that it doesn't have a skeleton. You know how my books have interstitials? That's how I sight my plot arc targets and plan the story. This book doesn't have a frame yet.

Should I write the prologue of this book in the style of Le Morte d'Arthur or in the vaguely disappointed tone of David Attenborough upset about overfishing?

I sent an email that required me to print something, sign it, and scan it back in (boring taxes).
