I'm delighted to be the Programme Chair for this year's Onward! Papers, and even more to have a stellar PC on board. Time to get thinking about your paper: what's your plan for advancing the state of software? Submissions are due in three months!

ACM-format citation minutiae-that-matter: I am strongly on the side of author-year. It's much more readable than the others. But I encourage everyone who publishes with ACM to vote, whatever your take....

This should be a question for readers, not for authors. If you care more about your convenience when writing than that your readers can make sense of it, well, … Also: indirections are bad in writing. Name things, be just the right amount redundant, and use author/year, please.

No just-in-time-for-the-deadline paper writing for this project! Publications must be submitted 30 days in advance to NWO.

I very much hope that makes affordable for all venues (including smaller SIGPLAN conferences and workshops such as SLE and GPCE) by the time we start publishing for this project. (Sooner would be better.)

"As soon as they are published, the Project Results should be immediately subject to Open Access to ensure their optimum dissemination or application." Reading "NWO Grant Rules 2017" in relation to our recently granted MasCot project. ()

Reminder: Despite expressing regret, ACM has not yet retracted its signature on the letter to Trump against proposed policy that would mandate open access. Please tell that you want open access for all publications: sign the petition!
