Good decision for you and look forward to your incisive writing. However I weep for cut back investigative print journalism generally. Tough times and readers are missing out as a result.

We’re going to need a bigger rock!!! At least 60 seals huddled up on there 🙈 The pod are still in the area, seen just across the firth at the southern entrance to Scapa Flow today.

Huge congrats to the 20 albums that make up the 2018 Longlist - every one a blinder and especially encouraging to see so many debut and second albums on this year’s list from a new generation of Scottish talent

I find it VERY odd that we aren’t taught any black British history in schools. No Mary Seacol, no Bristol bus boycotts, no Olive Morris, no Brixton riots, no Stephen Lawrence. It continues the narrative that racism doesn’t happen here and that we never had a civil rights movement

The ‘hostile environment’ took its toll at Womad this weekend - a number of events were seriously affected by visa refusals. By definition a Festival of World Music requires visas for many bands. What on Earth is the Home Office doing refusing them? Is music the new enemy?

I haven’t felt this appalled by politicians since 1987 when 3m were unemployed, a Tory spokesman said hope for Mandela’s release was ‘living in cloud-cuckoo land’, Edwina Currie said ‘good Christians don’t get AIDs’ and then Thatcher was voted in for a 3rd term.
