So here’s the thing. Alden Global Capital has clear-cut newspapers across the country. One raise for 10+ years, no retirement contribution, terrible health insurance, slashed staffs, the decimation of journalism. But today it has enough money to buy ?

I’m not going to discuss the East Bay Express powers that be laying off the entire editorial staff yesterday afternoon. I just want to thank Janelle, Darwin, Azu and co for their important work. They are damn talented — and will fall up in their next journalism chapters. Onward!

Not an issue anymore. DHS granted a last-minute extension yesterday, so you are all good with a regular driver’s license or other state-issued ID. CA now has until April 1 to become compliant & the original Oct. 2020 deadline for REAL ID enforcement is back in place (for now)

Someone was playing a mournful harmonica tune on my way down to San Jose this morning. Had to blink to make sure I wasn’t on a boxcar. Listen real close and you can hear it.
