Local resident and parish councillor Graham Mott, 83, has lived in the area all his life and says he can no longer have doors open during the day due to noise and smell of fuel from planes.

Cllr John Lodge says airport expansion could benefit local community and local transport, but it can only be considered if environmental migitation and infrastructure is sorted out. Any expansion needs to have solid proposals from owners of Stansted to address all issues.

Cllr Martin Foley says approval of airport expansion will cause “absolute misery for our residents and risk health problems for our family and friends”. If approved, cllrs will be committing “environmental vandalism”, Cllr Foley says.

Now for public speaking - says the airport is a mixed blessing and we must balance that fact it employs many people but also causes road and railway congestion. He says cllrs do not have all evidence needed to make decision - Gov should be making this decision.

A ‘community and health trust’ is also being set up - a pot of £150,000 each year - for communities near who might be affected by noise and disturbance from the airport - which may affect wellbeing.

In terms of noise mitigation - houses near the airport will be entitled to £10,000 each to pay for noise insulation works.
