If you log into the meeting and there is no waiting room, no password, and the link was public, it’s risky business.

I'm not running the call! I'm debating whether to let Kid1 do it. I think I'll contact the organizers.

I was wondering if maybe there were other settings, but since the idea is for it to be a discussion, I'm not sure how they would both have discussion & be protected from zoom bombing (but I don't know much about this).

Is there a way to tell ahead of time if a zoom call you are invited to is prone to zoom bombing? (I hate that this is a thing we need to consider, but I'm being especially cautious since Kid1 would be the one joining the call.) The link is on a public website.

I'm thinking a better approach might be to start with larger plants, not seeds, and devote specific areas to specific plants. (Maybe this would also help me get better at identifying them as seedlings?)

I would *love* to know more about the approach you and used! I have two small patches in my backyard where I spread native prairie seeds. I love all the pollinators that come, but it's not exactly neat which makes me hesitate about a similar approach in the front yard.

Two things happen when attention is drawn to higher rates of death & suffering among poor & disadvantaged people 1. They’re told its their own fault for bad behaviour (victim blaming) 2. They’re told that they’re genetically different to the rest of is (othered)

For me, fall would have to be a no, since I feel pretty sure I will be drowning in work (esp teaching) & family stuff then.

Good question. I'll eat more chocolate as I ponder.

Among a scientist's most important qualities is the ability to reconsider what they think in the light of new evidence, and to acknowledge when they were wrong. Thanks for your openness, clarity, and for engaging this way on social media -- taking time but so useful.

I'm reading about collinearity and bouncing betas. I'm going to need a lot of chocolate.

It got too hot to work upstairs, so I'm now editing in the basement, very close to where I keep my chocolate stash. This is goodbad.

Right now, my summer plan is: June: edit & write as much as possible July & August: most work time likely devoted to teaching prep

I think it can help to give a very brief summary in parentheses, such as "(given to one graduate student in Department X per year in recognition of ABC)"

All the organic matter that had been produced in the very productive lake had settled to the bottom while the fountains were off. But, once they turned back on, the lake fully mixed, bringing all that organic matter up to the surface where it decomposed, using up all the oxygen.

If she'd sprayed Kid2 in the face, I would be much more suspicious!

Was really hoping that getting the water table set up, swimsuits out, etc. would keep them occupied for longer. (Kid1 accidentally spraying Kid3 in the face didn't help matters.)
