i just got turned down for contract work assisting a company split a large project into a collection of libraries and releasing them using rubygems, because i "have neither a degree nor relevant experience." ... i'm one of the rubygems maintainers. πŸ™ƒ

anyway, apparently i'm going to have more free time than i expected, so if you could use paid help with any of the following, hmu: * Ruby/RubyGems * C * Python * kernel development * Docker, and/or Ansible * writing documentation .

I would be so fucking petty about this. "Huh weird how your engineers with those fancy new fangled college degrees can't do the job you wanted to contract me for huh"

honestly, Google has done the same thing to me multiple times, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that other companies do it too lmao

i just realized this is the kind of shit Google's done to me many times. "hi, i found your resume and it's really impressive, we should talk about you working here!" [talks to them] "sorry, you aren't qualified for this position."

you'd think being scouted by google multiple times might suggest you'd be a good hire regardless of arbitrary qualifications

idk why companies tolerate recruiters/HR doing this. all it does is make them look bad and waste their money?!

right? they hounded me down across 5 different names and 6 email addresses, but always turned me down afterwards. the last time they emailed me i told them to stop contacting me at all because it felt more like stalking than a job offer.

yeah this is my other really huge reason for turning down google: I don't trust them to actually hire people because they literally never do, they do the whole two interviews with no follow up crap to everyone I know
