Will someone please reassure American men that they are plenty tough? Everyone is very impressed with how tough they are. We can stop this nonsense. cnn.com/2020/01/30/car…

Agree: the obsession with SUVs is extremely damaging to the planet. Bigger cars need more material and bigger batteries.
But adding more horsepower has few negative repercussions for EVs.
In combustion cars, oversizing the engine makes the car less frugal. Hardly so for EVs.

I get your point but if this goes even a small way toward convincing them that EVs are good symbols of that toughness, I’ll take it.

Yeah. This. Totally agree with the general critique of American male self-image issues.
But don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. If resurrecting Hummer as an EV jumpstarts wider EV adoption, awesome.
This + EF-150 could really change the game.

If that’s what we need to do to get them to drive electric then so be it.

I think machismo is a key cause of traditional automakers losing the early EV lead to Tesla.

We have to resign ourselves to the fact that cars will continue to be status symbols in the electric era. It’s a niche vehicle, and if it sells people on more sensible electric vehicles down market, that’s fine by me.
