And it's hard to talk about this problem because it sounds super victim blamey to the women who do get catcalled.

The catcalling thing is interesting because women's experience of it seems to vary wildly for hard to understand reasons. I have several conventionally attractive able bodied female friends who never get catcalled and don't really understand why.

Yeah but I think that's just the difference between a large and a small privilege. If most everyone has access to water, being told you're not allowed pepsi seems like a much bigger deal.

Gosh, really? I confess I've never heard of this, but reading the description I cannot imagine it being well received by the target demographic.

Privilege mostly *is* a selection effect. Access to goods is largely equivalent to lack of bads ("people without that privilege are blocked from the good" is a bad) and most privilege is lack of bads.

In case you're not aware btw the technical term for this is "male privilege" (there are all sorts of problems you never even see because you're a man). It's a super useful concept with a name that puts a lot of men off.

For example I think bell hooks is reliably pretty good in this space. I've not yet read enough of her work (currently only "All About Love", and "Feminism is for Everyone". I've got "The Will to Change" sitting on my shelves but not got around to it yet)

What are some feminist texts that you would recommend to men who are resistant to the idea of feminism? (Please note that I am not the target audience for this - I've read a lot of feminism and am not at all resistant to it - and please don't tell me the question is problematic)

58. I'm also very annoyed with the SGC for their handling of the Orbanians. I'll grant their culture is... Problematic, but they're an advanced human civilisation with an incredible technology base. The future of the galaxy definitely belongs to the Orbanians.

You could probably demonstrate quite a lot about pressure, its interaction with temperature, and such. You couldn't get the precise versions like Boyle's law but you could get the directions of the relationships right.

It's called duck typing rather than goose typing because it doesn't cause problems *on purpose*

"unlocking the emotional brain" is the book on it everyone's talking about at the moment. Basic model is essentially to set off a trigger in a safe environment, understand it, and while it's active try to replace it with a better response. I don't understand it that well though
