House Speaker Osborne says they may do SB 2 this week. “It may take several days” he dryly said, as there have been a ton of amendments to the bill filed.

House Bill 256 just passed. It makes it so that a rapist has no visitation or custody rights to a child born from said rape.

The bill only applies to taxidermists and butchers who work with hooved mammals, not hunters (though he recommend that hunters dispose of deer properly). Hale says he's concerned about Chronic Wasting Disease, which isn't in Kentucky, but is elsewhere.

We're kicking off the orders of the day with Rep. David Hale's HB 369, which will determine how to dispose of unused cervid meat. Cervid means a hoofed mammal from the family Cervidae, the bill says.

Here's coverage about the devastation of the floods from and Bill Estep. "When it starts raining, ‘Mommy, it’s not gonna flood, is it?'" Smith said. "It’s hard on them."

An essay from about the frustration over the lack of attention often given to devastating flooding in Appalachia. These "100 year floods" have been happening more and more often and yet it never feels like much is being done about it.

1. This poll is from the middle of January and it's late February. Why release it now? 2. If the McGrath campaign is already down before a full McConnell assault, where do they pick up votes?

The campaign says 76 percent of people rank McConnell's job performance as "fair" or "poor" while 9 percent rank it as "excellent" or "good."

The McGrath campaign is sharing the top line of a poll done by Garin-Hart-Yang between Jan 8 and 13 that had McGrath at 40 percent and McConnell at 43 percent. Margin of error is 3.5 percent.

Three decades of holding the powerful accountable in WV through exceptional public service journalism, MacArthur “genius,” IRE Medal, 3 Scripps-Howard Awards for environmental reporting, newsroom mentor to young reporters. Can’t wait to see Ken’s next chapter.

Woah. This is shocking. Ken has done so much tremendously important work for West Virginia and Appalachia as a whole. It will be odd seeing his work somewhere other than the Gazette-Mail.

It really is a big difference. There’s nothing more humbling than thinking you’re a reasonable athlete (you played catcher! Surely you can stop a puck!) and getting lit up for 6 goals.

They also timed the statement to come out at the same time as Beshear announcing he'll sign SB 8, in further attempt to bury the story.

This does not answer whether House members who use Hurst as a consultant will sever ties with him. It does not answer whether staffers with ties to Hurst will sever them.

House leaders say they have severed ties with Hurst. No chance for follow up questions because they snuck out of the annex without taking questions.

Me and were waiting for them in the annex, told they were coming out to talk to us an hour ago. Must have taken a back way out of office to avoid us, but I happened to run into them as I left to go to 3pm Beshear presser in Capitol Building where they actually were.
