“When believers in Nigeria began to face persecution, they dropped the denominational infighting that is more common to the West and recognized that everyone suffering for their faith in Jesus is our family.”

On June 17th, 2015 a man walked into a South Carolina church and killed 9 people. Today, 4 years later, we’ll tell the story of the victims and survivors in theaters for the first time. Visit to find a theater near you.

Due to training... I listen to what people say, when they say it, how they say it, to whom they say it to, and when they don’t speak at all… The few times I’ve been around she is Christ-exalting, people-loving, and self-examining. Happy Birthday, Ms. Beth!

Happy Father’s Day, Big Mike a.k.a Dad! Thanks for teaching me the value of a classic musical, a love for Motown, how to deep fry chicken and grill, and that the purpose of a red light (literally and symbolically) is to stop and thank God. Love you, Dad

We often hear about the underground railroad going north to Canada. But there was a railroad south to Mexico, too. "There’s some evidence that tejanos, or Mexicans in Texas, acted as 'conductors' on the southern route by helping people get to Mexico."

That’s kind. I’m speaking systemically and historically. Personally, I spent much of my career listening as a counselor, not speaking. I do lament and will call out our ways of avoiding truth by requiring the messenger meet our standards. This is one dynamic.

Women in leadership are often managing the fragility of listeners. Calling for a level of skill that is unfair and level of work that is exhausting. Again the meta question is who can we hear truth from and how does this feed and shape churchtoo crisis .

BTW, black women speak folllowed by white men get mad, then white women restating it later is woven in American hx. That's the subtext of why crediting black women's voices matter. We take the greater risk when we speak. I don't get the faux "protection of complementarianism."

Who gets heard What voice, face, image is most palatable even when saying the truth is why this moment is happening... My prayer is that women will own that we are held responsible by God for how we use our voices within orgs. "I wasn't a leader" will not suffice as an excuse.

Wouldn't be surprised if Lydia, Phoebe, and Priscilla looked around and said that same thing a "few years back." Priscilla even said, " come here preacher, let me help you so you can see the Gospel more clearly." Yet, the issue of what voice is valued is at the core of churchtoo

"Despite the fact that HBCUs, account for just 3% of four-year nonprofit colleges, their alumni account for roughly 80% of black judges and 50% of black lawyers and doctors, and their students account for 25 % of black undergraduates who earn degrees in STEM."

Most of the women in this photo were told NOT to apply to college by a school counselor. From left to right: PhD, enrolled in PhD program, enrolled in MA, has her MA, has her MEd, enrolled in MBA. Don’t be THAT counselor.
