From a queue management perspective, single queue, multiple servers is provably most efficient and fairest. It’s preferable everywhere when possible, which is why you see it in banks, restaurants, etc. Watching the queue also means you can manage the problem!

Your comments are true of surgical referrals Lesley and even more true of medical specialty referrals where there is virtually no wait time information

No because special expertise can be built into the wait list management and governance

Thx Ilan. E-referral offers much better governance of referrals and wait lists. Worrying about shortening wait lists without implementation of e-referral is whistling in the wind.

Agree I believe that the OCEAN system being implemented in WW LHIN and SW could reduce referral bias as another positive impact. could comment whether this has been evaluated?

Vicky I agree that terms of a gift from donors must be respected but my experience is that donors often want to understand the “highest and most urgent needs” of the hospital in deciding how their money should be spent

you are right. Mohamed is responsible for implementation of OCEAN e-referral in WW that is spreading across adjacent LHINs along with other initiatives. He is first & foremost a great clinician who focuses on patient needs to drive innovation. ON is lucky he is here.
