Agree there are some brave, rebellious souls but £££ wins for most. The techlash is coming though!

Single biggest thing mayor/gov could do for health of uk tech scene is to discourage Google, FB and Amazon from opening offices in UK. Ironically they spend taxpayers money trying to attract them.

If I offer engineers double their market value and great perks to sit around and do a boring/unproductive job at FB/Goog, will they take it? 80-90% will, and they will find it hard to leave. Startup scene wrecked.

My concern is actually not them stealing by hiring from startups - it’s hiring all the good engineers straight from college/phd and shrinking the pool, discouraging risk, increasing startup cost & displacing startup activity. oh, and repatriating the benefits

Silicon Valley giants are poaching the crème de la crème from London's top startups as they look to fill their massive new offices in the city. Google and Facebook appear to be the main culprits

I’m with Azeem. Google/FB sucking engineers out of ecosystem or driving up salaries insanely is bad for startups. Their training doesn’t really prep them for startup life anyway. Not to mention no taxes, gov lobbying, monopoly abuse etc

isn’t this kind of what VCs do to angels (and the VCs get paid but the angels don’t)?

The learning from the MBA itself - yes, makes you a better CEO, including in a scale-up. The self-selection/demographic of the MBA cohort (mostly ambitious, type A, cv-building bankers/consultants) means most aren’t well suited though.

I'm running the London Marathon next year for , because I was a stem cell donor earlier this year and saw the amazing work they're doing. It's a long way to go but any money you can give would be amazing:

Yes, fellow old man seeing this - also too much benefits & office expectations, office dogs, lifestyle flexibility norms ..... vs hunger to do great work!

Actually quite small beer in the context of $120 Bn of UK tech exits since 2013! Not sure how much of this to team vs angels etc. But congrats and great to see.
