No, that they have not! Mind you, many of my 'post grad' students are older than me.

A few years ago when I taught my first college course (I had only taught at university before), students kept calling me Miss and I hated it. I wasn't sure why. It wasn't really about not acknowledging my credentials. This helped me understand my response.

Absolutely... but changing the way we teach, just to be innovative is problematic. I see many who base pedagogy on "theory" rather than evidence. Reading instruction, for one.

Pretty sure that what docs, mechanics & accountants did 30yrs ago, they are still doing today.... and for good reason.

Unsure what you are asking. In context of NTofD, one could frame spacing as the reactivation of past instantiations. Depending on review lesson, students may engage in varying levels of "deliberate" retrieval practice. Retrieval/reactivation may then reactivate related material.

2. Perhaps think about DD in terms of abstraction of deep structure or forming stable schema.

1. Although Bjork's "new theory of disuse is useful for thinking about memory in general, I wonder if the concept of "surface vs deep structure" might be more helpful to you. Also "overlearning" and practice with varied examples/contexts to facilitate abstraction and transfer.

Category = concept = mental construct... more of a cog psych definition. Thinking of Kornell & Bjork 2008 on paining styles, for example.

I like how you've translated the research into practice. A difficulty in discussing interleaving is whether you use it for teaching or practice. I have wondered about the applicability of studies in which interleaving is used for category induction in classrooms.
