The first brand-new product from us at Basecamp in many years is coming this April: An email service (not a client) built for people who both love and hate email. We'll fix the hate, and leave you with the love. Email is amazing, and it deserves our best.
Email at its best, new from Basecamp, coming soon.

I've been using HEY for months now. It's completely changed my relationship with email. It's brought out the best in email. Made me excited for email. Not only isn't email dead, it may be the best thing the internet ever gave us.

Email is so damn good that we have to rescue it from the travesty that is its capture by the likes of Gmail, Outlook, and a handful of other big tech providers. They've successfully fooled everyone into thinking the highest ambitions in email is a new gmail client. Ugh.

So with HEY, we're going full stack and full integration. An email service that doesn't require paying fealty to Google or Microsoft or anyone else. A new, fresh way to cut that big tech umbilical cord. I'm so fucking excited to share it!

On a long enough timescale, it'll probably make you breakfast in bed 😄

I'd be interested in hearing if you have any problems with deliverability.

We've already built a comprehensive testing harness to verify that we don't 😄. And we've been using HEY internally for months. But it required a lot of work! An alphabet soup of acronyms, setups, IP warming, etc. But we already send 5m emails per month via Basecamp.

I love email, because it's an open protocol. If it's not a client you're building, is it a protocol? Then I'd appreciate the link to the RFC where it's defined, please.

It's an integrated email service and email client that sends and receives regular emails with the outside world, but applies a new level of love and care on the inside.

So if I mark an email as spam, will it actually stay in spam and not show up again in my regular inbox tomorrow or several more times today? That's like the holy grail of email for me.
