Yeah that probably accounts for a lot of it. You could try a custom .parcelrc without Babel.

Also what kind of optimization are you doing in the prod bundle? Parcel does tree shaking and minifying by default. Would be good to compare with similar settings.

Would be interesting to hear more about your project so we can optimize. Like what plugins you’re using, etc.

Not yet, but that's the goal. The cache has been designed to be distributed. We'll have an implementation of that in the future.

There's a TSC plugin for Parcel 2 if you wanna stick with it. At this point though, Babel is better integrated with the rest of the JS ecosystem.

Then it can be combined with other babel plugins, e.g. future syntax, preset-env for browserslist based compilation, etc.

I think we'll probably support some kind of query parameters before the final release.

it's on the npm registry, yarn is just an installer.

It's mostly compatible out of the box. There are a few small differences that we'll document in more detail before the final release. Mostly custom plugins that need to be ported to the new API.

webpack loader syntax is non-standard so we don't support it unfortunately.

Some other small details about Parcel 2: 🌳 Tree shaking is turned on by default in production! 🐠 TypeScript is compiled with Babel by default, but there is a plugin for TSC if needed. 🛀 Type checking and linting are supported via validator plugins that run in the background!

The feature you’re quoting is to automatically do that. Externals are manually configured. They are not implemented yet, but likely will be by v2 final.
