The linguistic star among the boys rescued from the flooded cave in Thailand was a stateless boy who had fled Myanmar. He was proficient in English, Thai, Burmese, Mandarin and Wa, easing communication with the rescue divers.

RAICES needs volunteer translators: who speak Meso-American indigenous languages (eg, zapotec, nahua, ma'am, quich'e, maya, mixe, mixteco-- not Spanish). They don't need to be in Texas, or even in the US. They can translate remotely. email volunteer@raicestexas.org
