Garmin's released a beta GPS chipset firmware update that's aimed at fixing the swim issue I encountered, plus other GPS things. This specific update is for the Sony GPS chipsets on the FR45/245/945/MARQ and Edge 530/830. Update for previous chipset soon.

I’m speaking to garmin support now re: my fenix5. Do you know if when in open water mode (even when on dry land) it records GPS position only every 30/60 seconds?

OWS recording is somewhat variable. It can be as frequent as every second, or as latent as tens of seconds. It's basically trying to figure out where you're going based on really bad underlying data (since it only has GPS for about 0.5 seconds each stroke.

Incredible though that they released the product to market without making sure it actually worked .... not that they’ve done that before (much) .... my rule of thumb for them is only buy 6months post release if at all

For a gigantic company their software side has a not so solid reputation.. Too many SKUs (vs Garmin)?

Ray, there seems to be two versions, 3107 and 3506. Do you know which version is for which device?

My 830 loses signal so easily. Hoping this helps. Otherwise have been super happy with the update from the 820
