VS Codespaces and code spaces are an example of great engineering paying dividends. The team that built vs code designed it from the get go with this vision in mind. The out of process language sever model made it much easier to accomplish this

They are both powered by the same tech, but the GitHub one is a fully GitHub-native experience, integrated with GitHub UI, accounts, billing, and management. We'll do a post on the tech and collaboration behind how we brought this together - stay tuned!

If you’re into podcasts, I thought this was a great introduction to some of the architecture components and design decisions such as the “client/server” split that was built into VS Code
