I just watched Mum rip a weed out of the ground, break its stem, and impale it on a cactus spike. Gardening is hardcore.

Just when I think I've IDed every bird my backyard has to offer, I take part in a community organised BioBlitz and photograph two more species!
Variegated Fairywrens and a Red-whiskered Bulbul.

This young, inquisitive, and *adorable* Grey Butcherbird was very curious about me today. It swooped the pigeons and parrots several times, just for fun.

I want to support avian veterinary science. Anyone hiring me to illustrate a paper on the subject will get a reduced rate, particularly if the subject is respiratory conditions. Please share if you know someone who might be interested. #sciart #avianvet #avianmedicine

Not many birds to photograph right now because of an increase in raptors, such as this beautiful Square-tailed Kite. I'm guessing the fires have forced them to change their hunting grounds.

Not a few months ago, but we did have a bower in our backyard a few years ago.

Anyone my age knows damn well until mid-'90s, Australia Day was barely a blip on the radar. Except for the first inhabitants, for whom it's a source of pain. There's no deep emotional attachment to Jan 26. Opposition to changing date is just bloody-mindedness. #InvasionDay2020

Things to celebrate on Australia Day:
- beautiful landscape (stolen)
- cultural heritage (erased)
- unique wildlife (that we are killing)
- our "mateship", or friendliness, compassion and generosity (as long as you remind us of ourselves, don't make waves, and keep smiling)

You’d think it would be easy to get a consensus that committing genocide is a weird excuse for a BBQ, but no.

Remember the pair of Lorikeets that had soot/charcoal on their feathers? I was worried they might have lost their hollow in the fire? It turns out their babies are fine, and they brought them to visit us today. We gave them a snack.
