Three-Body Problem is selling well in Japan. In my view, China has had two globally successful cultural exports over the last decade: Liu Cixin and TikTok.
It’s a stunning disappointment that the number is so few. And the next decade may not be any easier

Does TikTok export Chinese culture, though, the way Three-Body Problem does in its brand? Do most of its users know it's Chinese?
(Genuine q as I'm neither an expert in TikTok or China!)

I don’t have a strong sense, but I think there’s a lot of Chinese content there, and at least it’s easy to discover it

Yes, though that seems mostly driven by US regulatory scrutiny, not a deeper brand concern

I want to discount food, not really a new cultural creation

Great book introduced to many Westerners by @EpsilonTheory
Also excellent memo (same title). I couldn’t put it down, first the memo, then the book.
