This is partly based on a chapter of my new book - STAR WARS AFTER LUCAS - which will be available at the end of this month. You can find it here:

If you’re in Melbourne, I’ll also be having an event in May to launch it, so keep an eye out for more details on that, too.

So I have people to thank for this one! and Ben who doesn't like being tagged gave crucial feedback on early drafts of this. let me use a too-perfect clip of Riley and Revenge of the Sith, too.

I spent... a lot longer than I usually do making this video and I reckon that's largely because of time spent watching be waayyyyy better than I am at editing and making things look really good. Learnt so much from them.

It's been like, two years? since I made my first video essay, 50% in iMovie before realising it was utterly terrible, and a lot of that time has been spent figuring out how all of this works.

It's always fun to do the music though - all the tracks (minus one obvious one!) were made by me for this, too. Which to be honest is probably overdoing it, but why use someone else's library music when you can make your own?

Anyway. If you've ever watched a video of mine, or shared it, or said nice things, or used it in a classroom, then I'm really grateful.

The way you connect this to climate change at the end nearly made me stand up and applaud. 👏👏👏👏

I’m writing a presentation now about The Legend of Zelda and it’s amazing how so many of the same structural dynamics are in play.

Ooh. This sounds right up my alley. (I just wrote a chapter on music in OoT for a NYU press book!)
