People say “you made <popular thing> so you’re smart”. But many projects aren’t difficult to build at first. Becoming an expert is often a consequence of tinkering, not the cause. Developing an intuition for what exists and what should exist has more impact than technical smarts.

Learn about the landscape beyond what is commonly used in your ecosystem. Look for inspiration elsewhere, both in the past and in other communities. Figure out what you wish existed and try to make it. Look under the hood of what you use every day.
