Random GoT thought -- I'm really going to miss seeing the show's introduction change week after week. I remember getting super excited when Braavos finally appeared on the map!

I love this rant! Agreed -- it's really devastating how moms are bombarded with the message that they should look like they were never pregnant. Um, pregnancy can and often will change your body forever! So much guilt heaped onto women.

I worked at Air & Space! It was wonderful, and I think the Smithsonian does a great job with their internships—we had numerous events with other interns. You’ll have a blast! Do you have a place to stay?

Ahhhh, this is so exciting! I interned at the Smithsonian many moons ago and it was a life-changing experience! I hope you have a wonderful time in DC!

This is a thread about why I use correct pronunciation of Spanish on the air. I received a phone message this week from a man who was upset about my pronunciation of Spanish names. Hear a portion so you get the idea of his concerns.

Aw, happy birthday to your youngest! And YAY that you got to take a trip on your own! My sis and I recently did that and it felt like I was rediscovering myself in a way. Plus, super rejuvenating!

YES! "Self fulfilling prophecy" is the best way to put it! That's one piece of advice I'd give now to new parents -- both of you need to build that bond from day 1.

Yes! I really wish I could go back in time and tell myself that I was doing a good job already and to be gentler with myself. I felt so much guilt at times and those books didn't help!

American culture definitely isolates moms! In traditional Chinese culture, new mothers tended to receive more support from extended family and the community. And both my grandmas played a huge role in raising my siblings and me. It makes me sad that we've lost that.

I'd also like to add that my daughter's first babysitter worked so hard to foster a secure attachment with my darling-yet-colicky infant. We're still close 5 years later. That's what kids need -- people who love them. So stop guilt-tripping moms. Let them nap for God's sake!!!

Honestly, this sentiment needs to die a painful death. It gives husbands/partners a pass to let the new mother handle the bulk of the childcare. "Oh, the baby won't stop crying! I guess she needs her mom!" *Passes screaming infant to a drained husk of a mother*

Ughhhhhh, I heard this too when I was a first-time mom and WE NEED TO STOP SAYING THIS. It messed with my head. As the primary caregiver I was often exhausted and overwhelmed, and instead of seeking self-care I just told myself I had to suck it up.

In today's Slate's parenting advice column, a letter writer is nervous about having kids bc she keeps hearing the sentiment, “[Babies] need their mother and most of the time won’t settle for anyone else.”

So devastated. My sister and I were there just two weeks ago, both of us in awe of the beauty and history of the building. This is such a loss.

Haha, it’s such a quaint happily ever after! Not sure how the Overlord heard about it though... Should I start checking our storm drains? 😬
