Fed up of hearing 'pupil premium' in relation to 'disadvantage' Some of the most disadvantaged kids in my class are not PP and many of my PP kids (50% of class) are well looked after. So, no. I will not 'target' my PP children. One day we will look back at this and be appalled

"One of the most debated findings from PISA has been that teacher-directed instructional practices tend to better predict student achievement than student-oriented learning. Some consider this a statistical fluke; but it has been a consistent finding."

I would, it’s terrifying too but same idea, people with incredible talent and belief in their own skills and even though several die each year they are convinced it won’t happen to them. Some people are just wired differently.

Look at the map, at the top there. Aberdeen is North, everywhere else is southern and soft.

Maths inservice was absolutely brilliant today. Subject specific CPD is better than any other CPD.

I’ve been tweeting a lot about behaviour recently. It’s not that it’s all I care about... but the inane, out-of-date, anti-discipline platitudes to be found on Twitter are quite mind bending - they need challenging 2) if behaviour is bad, nothing else really matters.

Really struggling with the notion that 13 week's holiday with my Little S is worth 39 weeks of what feels like being an "absent" parent. Absent in the physical sense Mon-Fri 7:30-17:30 and then in the mental sense for the remaining hours/days due to the stress

The pupils would be capable because we would prepare them for it. We inevitably teach to the final exam. It’s a bit of a downward cycle. Exams get easier we prepare them less We prepare them less the exams get easier. SQA should say in 8 years time we are going back to this level

Throughout the past year I have slowly been developing resources for N5 Applications of Maths. Finally got round to getting somewhere to share them. Anyone teaching Apps feel free to use and share.

When you get on a bus/train go to the doctor, enter a shop their is a sign saying “abuse, threats, violence towards our staff will not be tolerated and if you do it you will be prosecuted and banned from these premises” Why isn’t that sign displayed in my classroom?

No problem I found the report. Pretty depressing stuff. On top of other factors we have to deal with no wonder we have a recruitment and retention problem
