As a matter of fact, I have these hanging in my office, next to the chair where students sit. Hopefully not too snarky.

Reminds me of “Phone Call to the 14th Century”.

More about learning than teaching, but I recommend the book _Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning_ by Brown et al. My colleague Dan Wolczuk has also collected resources and given seminars about teaching and learning: ,

I'm working on a new CAD tool that combines vector editing and programming. More info and newsletter:

It's also worth looking at the lovely tilings you can create by combining the Cairo tile and a prismatic pentagon. See, for example, the second half of this paper by Frank Morgan:

This opens up the uncanny question of what might constitute "perfect vision".

This recent article is relevant: . "...the University of British Columbia’s air travel produces 26,000 to 32,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, which is equivalent to about two-thirds of all the university’s emissions." Yikes.

That thing people say about the academic rat race (a pie-eating contest where the prize is more pie) is equally true of airline status programs.

Past work by Abdalla Ahmed seems both mathematically and aesthetically related:

Seems like the ACM failed to read the letter they signed? This statement makes a rather different case.

I'm not saying they're good arguments, just that they're there only ones left that carry any weight at all. I love the idea of an open access journal paying freelance copyeditors to clean up writing.

To my mind, the main arguments that still make sense are: * Better (professional) copyediting and typesetting * Getting plugged in to scholarly indexing services, university libraries, etc. They're no longer strong arguments, but they do still provide some marginal value.

I don't know what an ideal response to this tweet ought to be, but it certainly mentions Jefferies Tubes.

I live very close to Listowel, Ontario, upon which Letterkenny is (apparently) based. I find it hilarious, and know many others who do. But its language and customs are as alien to me as I'm sure they are to most other people.

Totally. I had that in mind to some extent in talking about 2D/3D interplay, but I was more focused on 3D geometry being momentarily perceived as 2D.

Following up on my recent talk about mathematical animated GIF art, I wrote up a blog post with pointers to the artists, artworks, and visual devices I mentioned. I hope it's useful!
