It's not bad, but a few small connections can make it so much better.

if it's a good idea no one calls it "blockchain" (see: certificate transparency, git, ...)

I mean, why does WeWork exist? Pretty much solely because Masayoshi Son thought it was the sort of bullshit that the Saudis would fall for. It's like Springtime for Hitler.

Because otherwise a tax on new housing ends up being a subsidy to landlords (and a much bigger one than what goes to affordable housing).

This seems like something you might know: how much has the layout changed since the station first opened?

And remember when trains could do 90 mph through Larchmont and Mamaroneck? Not anymore, all of MNR is limited to 80 mph at most because Reasons.

Metro North slows down trains. For example trains could do 45 on the Bridgeport curve tomorrow if MNR allowed it. 55 if they superelevated the tracks more. Likewise 55/65 on the Port Chester curve.

They really need to true the wheels more often, and maybe fix the ATC system if it's causing all those flats.

The trains are down to 10 mph before the first switch, I suspect it's not so good for conflicting moves but many trains do effectively run through.

I really wonder how much of a constraint the 10 mph speed through the station and throat is...

Correct, North River Tunnels got some high density block signal system (with no wayside signals), East River tunnels did not and still have waysides.

At some point they switched from two to three platforms, presumably to add 50% to the cost. And then there is the whole express track thing...

There's a very poorly placed equipment cabinet on the inbound end of the inbound platform that should be moved. That entrance needs some rethinking in general.

They don't work on electric lines, so Denver used some fancy PTC-base system, which didn't work, and they weren't allowed to open their new line for like a year because the gates might come down *too early*

In the US they have grade crossing predictors to measure the train's speed and keep warning time as close to 20 sec as possible.

But also, scalability. Wires are a per route-mile cost, batteries are a per-vehicle cost.

I have heard a conspiracy theory that Moscow is dismantling its trolleybus network to sell the copper for scrap (apparently it has a high beryllium content or something).

Although recompositing only the tiles that need it seems like a viable optimization if you have a blinking cursor or something.
