pmtip it may seem like it is your job to "reign in" the "tendencies of developers and designers to gold-plate" IME, this can be addressed in a healthier way through shared purpose, exposing assumptions, and a real sense of impact.

External to your organisation or external to your area? Cross-dependencies are a pet-hate of mine. Is it something one of those things your organisation is aware of and is addressing or is it challenge that only a few of your face?

I can definitely relate to that. Do you think it is just the timezone or the distance (not being colocated) that affects you more? It still feels like we've not quite got the 'remote' part of work quite right yet.
