Democrats had a breakthrough election in the Chicago suburbs last year with a net gain of 21 seats across 5 county governing boards. Dems won majority of seats on the Lake Co. Board for the first time in county's 175+ year history. 14 (67%) of 21 Dem gains were by women.

There were 4,635,541 ballots cast this year with a registration of 8,099,372 for a statewide turnout of 57.23%. Turnout was up everywhere but it was highest in Chicago.
