Some others:
- RM Williams
- Going out for brunch almost twice a week on average
- Paying a bit more in rent so I can walk to work (still ~1hr — but that’s perfect)

As a sidenote, my favourite definition of luxury comes from @thesublemon
> luxury has to do with excess beyond the necessary. “the necessary” can refer to “necessary for a function” or “necessary for what i can make do with.”

Craigslist’s or equivalent for tools.
Pedagogy — nothing will beat apprenticing (even if it’s just a shortish course). There are some great touuebe videos for “Japanese woodworking”
This was good for mortise and tenon joins for instance. m.youtube.com/watch?v=VABUW9…

I’ll admit I was conditioned by the replies. I didn’t think your scope was that narrow.

Or, is your point broader than using the search bar in “advanced” ways? twitter.com/gwern/status/1… twitter.com/gwern/status/1…

What do you think about this?
There’s a combination some(?) downstream skills that make it appear like Search is *the most important*. While performed post-search, they’re actually axiomatic.
1. Knowing how to seperate noise or BS from signal.
2. Knowing how to fact check.

Tangential, but not quite -- re: the first tweet -- I'm reminded of Mark Fisher's comment on checking 'our' communicable parasites [phones] while driving :/
See screenshot.
