This deserves as much of an audience as possible. It is focused on medical issues but the lessons it teaches go beyond that. Would love to see one for public policy, for example. Could be an ⁦⁩ special.

honestly can’t say they are. Tested my running economy in them and my regular shoes and not much difference. But at least they are doing no harm!

Very sorry to hear this. Always remember Dave around the track in UL with his PE students. Hugely respected in his field and generous with his time

Thanks John. It helped to know the course but I think more so - to know my body well enough to how it responded after a few days very easy to recover after half marathon

Good article but these ‘either’ ‘or’ extremist debates are asking the wrong questions. More like - what’s the right blend of the two variables for each athlete to address their physiological profile, shortcomings and goals

Ask experienced coaches what changed most over their careers & they often say all the extraneous stuff they got rid of. Don’t over-complicate the training process w/ fads/gimmicky exercises. Train and measure the simple things- speed/strength/work capacity - a linear speed ex. 👇

"For a youth athletic development plan, you should think in terms of exercises like jumps, hops, skips, & rolls." lists his key pieces of equipment used to train the "movement ABCs" before athletes move on to a young adult lifting program.

1) It's a shame when main-stream media tout the newest diet fad for elite athlete performance without any direct evidence to support it (beyond correlations, which are omnipresent in nutritional epidemiology).
